I watched with a wry smile the American Ex-President Bush on a TV news clip a while back encouraging the American public to ignore "all those crazy conspiracy theories". I loved it and laughed myself off the couch. It proves again why the best politicians are those that can carry a lie in public!
He was however simply using the resources he had (the media) to protect what he wanted (power) over a people caught in an illusion. I actually don't blame him for this. Almost anyone in his position would have most likely done exactly the same.
Except for one notable exception a couple of thousand years ago, it's just naturally the way of people in power to protect their power. We all do this too in many different ways. As a country we arm ourselves and have a defence force. As a family we put a fence around our land, a lock on our door. As a leader of people we insist on respect from our staff, children and anyone we have power over. Even young children will protect their own drinking cup, pen or pencil, or favourite toy.
I'm a stickybeak. Synomosia is the outworking of a lifetime of asking questions.
Stickybeaks can sometimes get their noses "bopped" as people in power object to others finding out the truth they want to conceal but they're always more clued up than followers. I learned this from my younger sister who innocently informed me that Santa was a "crock" because she found Santa's shopping list IN OUR MOTHER'S HANDWRITING. This proved a couple of things. 1. Nothing is what it seems, even from those you should be able to trust, and 2. She was inherently smarter than I was.
. . . big-picture thinkers who ask questions generally end up conspiracy theorists
I'm a thinker. Thinkers generally end up conspiracy theorists. Sure we can go overboard and see "Reds under the bed" at every juncture but it's the inevitable consequence of working out the way things actually are. Sure there are some nutters out there but its just downright sillier to believe that Bin Laden brought down the New York towers than to believe that some things seriously don't add up in the official stories.
It's not that we're smarter than the rest because we're better - its just that with greater knowledge comes greater understanding and some may even say a degree of wisdom.
The challenge of a Christian conspiracy theorist, is to balance the reality of a fallen world, struggling to survive the impact of a gazillion evils, with the joy and hope that comes from faith in a loving God who calls us to have faith in Him and His way of doing things.
This conundrum (a man of faith living in a world full of intrigue, evil, lies and conspiracy) is at the heart of www.synomosia.com.
